Indiana Law students can build their own plan of study by taking classes from a number of different areas, or they can choose an area of focus.
Description "Accounting for Lawyers" introduces the field of accounting with an emphasis on financial accounting and reporting. Students will learn basic accounting terminology. Students will evaluate business transactions and learn to prepare the four financial statements required by U.S. GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Standards.) Students will read and analyze the financial reports and explore how they are used to make business decisions. The course will introduce the standards utilized by the accounting profession, and will incorporate current accounting issues from the media as well as #real world# financial statements for companies such as Pepsi, Nike, and others. Basic accounting knowledge should be beneficial for people taking the following courses: Wills & Trusts, Corporations, Family Law, Bankruptcy, Tax Law, Antitrust, Securities Law, Employment and Labor Law, Law and Economics, Commercial Law, Estate Planning, and International Law. Students who have already taken any basic accounting course are not eligible to enroll in this course.
