Dean's Advisory Boards

The School of Law has two advisory boards: the Board of Visitors and the Alumni Board. These boards focus on broad policy issues and help serve collective interests among the bench, the bar, and the Law School. The support and counsel provided by our board members is invaluable as we prepare for the future.

Board of Visitors

The Board of Visitors is appointed to serve as an advisory committee to the Law School dean in her effort to maintain and improve the School’s national standing, and to provide assistance in self-studies and evaluations of the School and its programs.

Alumni Board

The Alumni Board is a 36-member group of dedicated and talented alumni from across the country.

Focus Advisory Boards

In addition, the School of Law has advisory boards that focus on particular programs, areas of law, or groups of alumni.

• Black Law Student Association Advisory Board

  Established in 2003, the Black Law Student Association (BLSA) Alumni Advisory Board's primary purpose is to provide guidance for the African-American students of Indiana Law. Board members work throughout the year, coming together on campus for an annual meeting, to provide input on such critical issues as recruitment, retention, networking and placement of the Black student population.

• Environmental Law Program Advisory Board

  The Environmental Law Alumni Advisory Board is comprised of alumni of Indiana Law who have distinguished themselves in a wide range of fields of environmental law. The board provides the environmental law faculty with their individual and collective perspectives on the development of this field of law, important and emerging legal issues, and career opportunities for current students. The board also provides advice on Indiana Law's educational program in environmental law, and members serve as a resource to law students who wish to pursue a career in environmental law.

• Business Law Program Advisory Board

  The Business Law Advisory Board is a combination of two former boards: (i) The JD/MBA Advisory Board and (ii) the Entrepreneurship Law Clinic Advisory Board. The boards were combined and membership expanded, in order to serve more efficiently the general needs of the School of Law with regard to its business law programs. The membership serves as advisors to Indiana Law in:

  • (a) providing feedback regarding Indiana Law’s business law curriculum;
  • (b) supporting and promoting Indiana Law’s business law programs, including the joint JD/MBA degree program;
  • (c) developing and assisting Indiana Law’s business law skills-oriented programs, including the Elmore Entrepreneurship Law Clinic; and
  • (d) advising and assisting Indiana Law with regard to both internship and permanent placement of its business law students, including the JD/MBA students.
• Intellectual Property Advisory Board

  The Intellectual Property Alumni Advisory Board is comprised of alumni from across the country who have distinguished themselves in the areas of intellectual property including patent law, trademark law, trade secret law, and communication law. The board works with faculty to help inform curriculum and with students to enhance educational and employment opportunities.
